Deep Fishing Guide

Secret fish and rarity

Quick answer

Rarity climbs Legendary → Mythical → Secret, and the hardest unlocks are the named fish the temples demand as offerings.

Rarity in Deep Fishing works as a ladder, and the top of it is where the game stops being about fishing efficiently and starts being about fishing specifically. The rare catches are not just bigger versions of common fish — they are named fish with fixed roles, and two of the temples will not open without them.

The rarity ladder

<div class="tbl-wrap"> <table> <thead><tr><th>Tier</th><th>How you know you hit it</th><th>What it means for your session</th></tr></thead> <tbody> <tr><td><span class="rarity common">Common</span></td><td>Everyday catches</td><td>Bulk income, pond filler, mutation candidates</td></tr> <tr><td><span class="rarity rare">Rare</span></td><td>Better silhouettes, higher sell values</td><td>Where a deep cast starts paying noticeably better</td></tr> <tr><td><span class="rarity legendary">Legendary</span></td><td>Its own badge on first catch</td><td>First real trophy; the badge list tracks these</td></tr> <tr><td><span class="rarity mythic">Mythical</span></td><td>Its own badge on first catch</td><td>A rarity tier above legendary, with its own badge</td></tr> <tr><td><span class="rarity secret">Secret</span></td><td>Its own badge on first catch</td><td>The top tier — several secrets are named, specific fish</td></tr> </tbody> </table> </div>

The badge list confirms the tiers exist as first-catch milestones: First Legendary, First Mythical and First Secret are three separate badges, so the ladder is official rather than community shorthand.

The named secrets, and why they matter

Secrets are not only trophies. The two temples in the current build accept specific fish as offerings, and some of them are secrets:

<div class="tbl-wrap"> <table> <thead><tr><th>Temple</th><th>What the pedestals want</th><th>Reward</th></tr></thead> <tbody> <tr><td>Desert temple (Dune Haven)</td><td>Plesiosaur · Megalodon · Dune Worm Colossus · Dusk Fang Scorpion</td><td>Chronus Rod</td></tr> <tr><td>Frost temple (Frostmire)</td><td>Tusk Breaker Narwhal · Glacier Back Ankylos · plus two secrets: Frost Air Plant and Blue Whale</td><td>The frost rod (priced in the trillions)</td></tr> </tbody> </table> </div>

That is the whole reason rarity matters mechanically: a secret fish is not just worth more coins, it is a key to content you cannot buy with coins.

The catch with no fishing required

One rare catch is not caught at all. Feeding your pond to a luck threshold hands over an exclusive fish that never appears on a hook — players report it as the reward for pushing feeding luck to its limit. It is the single most-missed unlock in the game, because everything else about the pond looks like pure money.

How to actually raise your odds

  1. Fish deeper water. Rarer fish live lower in the water column; Strength and Weight put you in front of them.
  2. Raise luck on the right rod. Luck enchants and the luck gamepasses stack onto the rolls you are already making.
  3. Fish in the right world. Dune Haven and Frostmire exist for a reason — the temple fish come from those pools.
  4. Do not only chase secrets. The pond, the coins and the mutations are what fund the casts that eventually find them.
  5. Check your badges. If the First Secret badge is not lit, you have not landed one yet — no matter how many big fish you have pulled.
